Walk In's

We welcome walk in patients

When the drive is worth it, and when it is not

Baldivis Family Medical Centre is about 12 km from Secret Harbour, roughly 15 minutes up Mandurah Road. We see patients from Secret Harbour, Golden Bay, Port Kennedy and Singleton.

If you want a Secret Harbour GP for everyday care, a script, a certificate or a sick kid on a Tuesday, use a practice in your own suburb.

What we have that a local practice usually does not is more than a dozen medical specialists consulting on the same site as our nine GPs, plus a treatment room for minor surgery and cardiac testing done in-house.

We’ve moved! Find us at: 19 Settlers Avenue, Baldivis WA 6171

Specialists, cardiac testing and minor surgery on-site, about 15 minutes away.

In an emergency, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department. Chest pain, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, stroke signs or serious injury will not wait for a GP appointment.

The specialists consulting on site

Consulting alongside our GPs: a cardiologist, two paediatricians, two psychiatrists, a nephrologist, a gastroenterologist, a plastic surgeon, an orthopaedic surgeon, psychologists, a midwife and a physiotherapist.

One rule decides what you pay. To claim the Medicare rebate on a specialist appointment, your GP must write the referral before you attend. Referrals expire and can’t be back-dated. If yours has lapsed, book a GP review first rather than the specialist.

Tests done in the building

Pathology collection runs on site Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, so bloods ordered during a consult are taken before you leave.

Also here: ECG, spirometry for asthma and COPD, pulse oximetry, iron infusions, venesection, wound care, ear syringing, ingrown toenail removal and Implanon insertion or removal.

The 24-hour Holter monitor is the one worth the trip. It is fitted in the clinic rather than at a hospital; the recording is read by a cardiologist, and, for eligible Medicare cardholders, the test itself is bulk billed. Palpitations, dizziness or an irregular pulse are exactly what a 10-second ECG in a consulting room tends to miss.

Skin checks and minor surgery

Our GPs perform full-body skin checks and treat what they find on-site: cryotherapy for sunspots, biopsy or shave excision, and surgical removal of skin cancers under local anaesthetic. No referral is needed. Allow 20 to 30 minutes, so book a long appointment.

Where this differs from a standard GP skin service is what happens next. If a lesion needs more than a GP should safely do, a plastic surgeon and an orthopaedic surgeon consult here, so the referral is down the corridor rather than into the public system.

Mental health

Two psychiatrists and psychologists consult at the practice, and our GPs write Mental Health Treatment Plans, which is what gives you access to Medicare-rebated sessions.

We also have an 8-week CBT group therapy program. Entry requires a GP referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan, then a short individual screening with the psychology team. Medicare rebates cover up to ten group sessions a year, and groups are capped at ten people.

Hours and what it costs

We are open until 8:00 pm Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm Saturday and 3:00 pm Sunday. We are a mixed-billing practice.

Standard appointments are bulk billed for patients under 16, pension and health care card holders, and DVA Gold card holders. DVA White card holders may be bulk billed for covered conditions at the GP’s discretion, and bulk billing may be available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

What it costs, honestly

We are a mixed-billing practice. Some patients are bulk billed; most pay a gap on the day and claim the Medicare rebate back.
