Worrying about your heart is tiring, and most people carry it quietly for a while before they book anything. Whether a result came back abnormal or something simply hasn’t felt right, having it looked at is what ends the guessing.
Most heart problems are found through routine checks rather than emergencies, and most are manageable once someone is actually looking. Heart assessment, ECG and 24-hour monitoring are available here, and your GP arranges specialist referral where it is needed.
🚨 Do not wait for an appointment if you have symptoms now. Chest pain, pressure or tightness, pain spreading to the arm, neck or jaw, sudden breathlessness, or a racing heart with dizziness or fainting: call 000. Do not drive yourself. Heart attacks do not always hurt the way people expect, and it is better to be checked and sent home.

How to see a cardiologist
If your GP thinks it is urgent, say so at the desk. Urgent cardiac referrals are handled differently.
Cardiologists are specialist doctors, so you need a GP referral rather than a direct booking.
Book a GP appointme
Bring recent results, your medication list, and a note of what you have noticed and when.
Your GP assesses first.
Often, an ECG or blood tests are done on the day, which shape where the referral goes.
Heart testing done on site
- ECG. A recording of the heart’s electrical activity, done in the clinic.
- 24-hour Holter monitoring. Fitted here rather than at a hospital, worn for a day, reported by a cardiologist. Bulk billed for eligible Medicare cardholders.
- Blood tests. Cholesterol, lipids, kidney function and diabetes markers, collected on site.
- Blood pressure, as part of a heart health check.
Our Team
Cardiometabolic and lipid care here
High cholesterol, metabolic risk and blood pressure are often managed by a specialist physician rather than a cardiologist, and that is what is available at the practice.

Dr Vijaya Venkataraman, Specialist Physician
Dr Venkataraman is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, with master's qualifications in Perioperative Medicine and Lipidology. She consults on lipid and metabolic risk management, cardiometabolic health, POTS and dysautonomia, preoperative assessment and general internal medicine.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to see a cardiologist?
Specialist fees vary by doctor, and a referral written before the appointment is required to claim any Medicare rebate. For comparison, an initial appointment with Dr Venkataraman, a specialist physician, is currently listed at $350 with a $210 rebate, leaving about $140 out of pocket. Follow-ups are $250 with a $130 rebate. Ask the cardiologist’s rooms for their fee when your GP refers you.
Is the Holter monitor bulk billed?
Yes, for eligible Medicare cardholders. The monitor is fitted in the clinic, and the recording is reported by a cardiologist. Ask reception when you book.
What happens at a first appointment?
A detailed history, an examination, and a review of your results and medications. Expect questions about family history, exercise, smoking and alcohol. Bring your medication list, including anything taken without a prescription.
Do I need a referral?
Yes, to claim a Medicare rebate. It must be written before the appointment, and a referral from any GP is accepted.
Get it checked properly
Most people who book a heart check are fine, and the ones who are not are far better off knowing early.
